EV CutawayElectric Vehicles (EV's) and Hybrids (various combinations electric motors, batteries, internal combustion engines, and potentially, FUEL CELLS, which run on Hydrogen) offer some of the most exciting possibilities within the next few years.

Because EV's run on electricity from batteries, they offer freedom from high gas prices. Nationwide, only about 4 (four) percent of electricity generation is produced from oil.

EV's are nearly twice as efficient as internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, and therefore significantly less polluting, even when power plant emissions are considered!

Electric "fuel" costs are low -- typically around $0.02 (two cents) per mile OR LESS! * EVs are the ONLY technology that can be fueled directly with CLEAN RENEWABLE ENERGY from solar panels, wind and hydroelectric power.

EVs are FUN TO DRIVE! The GM "EV-1" -- only available for lease on the West Coast -- offers sports car acceleration with a battery range of up to 150 miles.

EV drivers LOVE their cars! More than 85% of EV1 drivers have renewed their leases, and most owners report leaving their *gasoline* cars at home in the garage more than 90 percent of the time!

More than 4,500 EVs produced by the bigger automobile firms are on the road in CA and AZ, but relatively few are available yet to the public, and even fewer are available in the State of Maryland.

Part of the reason for this, is CA's Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate which requires leading car and truck manufacturers to offer up to 10 percent of all cars sold as Electric Vehicles.
